Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition, using the 2014 core rulebooks, is a fantasy roleplaying game where a Dungeon Master runs the world and players each control a hero. Characters pick a race, class and background, then explore dungeons, solve problems and fight monsters together. Most checks are a d20 roll plus a modifier against a target number, with advantage and disadvantage letting you roll twice and keep the higher or lower result. Sessions mix combat, exploration and conversation, often in settings like the Forgotten Realms or a homebrew world.

This is Dungeons & Dragons played with the revised core rulebooks released in 2024, starting with the new Player's Handbook. The core loop is unchanged: a Dungeon Master describes the world, players control heroes and resolve actions with a d20 plus modifiers. The revision reworks every class and subclass, lets your background set your ability score increases, renames races as species and adds weapon mastery properties. It stays compatible with most fifth edition adventures, so sessions still blend fantasy dungeon crawling, roleplay and tactical combat.

Pathfinder Second Edition is a fantasy roleplaying game set by default in the Lost Omens world of Golarion. A Game Master runs adventures while players build characters from an ancestry, background and class, then add feats as they level. Each turn gives you three actions to spend on moving, striking, casting or other options, which makes combat tactical and flexible. Rolls are a d20 plus modifiers, and beating the target by 10 earns a critical success. The Remaster rulebooks, such as Player Core, update the game and stay compatible with older books.

Call of Cthulhu is a horror roleplaying game inspired by the stories of H. P. Lovecraft. Players are investigators, ordinary people who dig into strange events, usually in the 1920s, while the Keeper presents clues and the creeping threat behind them. Skills are percentages and you roll a d100 under them, with hard and extreme successes for tougher tasks and the option to push a failed roll at a cost. Sanity drops as characters face the unknown, so sessions focus on research, tension and survival rather than combat.

Daggerheart is a fantasy roleplaying game from the team behind Critical Role, built around collaborative storytelling. Players roll two twelve sided Duality Dice, one for Hope and one for Fear, and the higher die shapes how the story turns as well as whether you succeed. Hope fuels player abilities, while Fear lets the Game Master make moves and bring in threats. Characters are built from cards for ancestry, community, class domains and abilities. The core book includes campaign frames to start from, and there is no fixed initiative order in combat.
